La Mesa Española (The Spanish Table) is a social group that collects each week for an evening of practicing the Spanish language. Our group attracts the widest range of people interested in speaking Spanish, from native speakers to rank beginners. There is never a charge - attendance is completely free. Drop in when you can, leave when you wish. Everyone is welcome, and we hope you will join us soon!
La Mesa Española meets on Mondays at Taco Milagro, 2555 Kirby Drive at Westheimer, 713-522-1999 (map). When the weather is nice, we are out on their huge patio. Otherwise, we are inside. Look for the group of tables pushed together, and a set of miniature flags from all the Spanish speaking countries. Taco Milagro has a great menu and a full bar, and many of us enjoy dinner while chatting in Spanish. General Spanish conversation starts at 8:00 pm, and runs until about 10:00 pm when Taco Milagro closes.
For students with more time, there is a grammar study from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm before conversation. The grammar study is in English with exercises in Spanish. Lately we have been working our way through the book The Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice by Ronnie L. Gordon and David M. Stillman. [At the time of writing, you can purchase this book online , brand new, delivered to your doorstep, for $13.81.] It is quite dense with excellent information, including complete answers to all exercises, making it great for self-study. We started this book in December of 2006. Grammar students are welcome to join us at any time. Each week is relatively independent of preceeding weeks, and you can share a book with another student until you want to buy your own.
